Plot Overview

In August 1896, a mysterious supernatural event over Victorian London grants a select group of citizens—mostly women and marginalized individuals—extraordinary, supernatural abilities. Known collectively as “The Touched,” their powers range from seeing visions of the future and generating fire to understanding any language or inventing miraculous electrical gadgets.

Three years later, Amalia True (Laura Donnelly), a quick-witted, mysterious widow with combat prowess and visions of the future, runs St. Guilda’s Orphanage alongside her best friend Penance Adair (Ann Skelly), a brilliant inventor who can harness electricity. Together, they offer a safe haven for the Touched, protecting them from a hostile society that views them as unnatural threats to the British Empire’s elite.

As political leaders, sinister underground doctors, and a murderous Touched serial killer named Maladie (Amy Manson) target their community, Amalia and Penance unravel a deep cosmic conspiracy behind the origin of their powers—discovering that the fate of the planet rides on their ability to protect the source of their gifts.
