Plot Overview

Legend tells the true story of the rise and fall of London’s most notorious gangsters, the identical twin brothers Reggie and Ronnie Kray (both portrayed by Tom Hardy), who dominated the British underworld during the swinging 1960s.

Reggie is the charismatic, smooth-talking ex-boxer who runs the business side of their criminal empire, which includes illegal gambling clubs and protection rackets. Ronnie, on the other hand, is a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic who is unpredictable, deeply violent, and openly bisexual. Despite Ronnie’s chaotic outbursts continuously threatening to destroy their operations, Reggie remains fiercely loyal to his twin.

The film’s narrative is framed through the perspective of Frances Shea (Emily Browning), a young woman who falls in love with and marries Reggie. Frances tries desperately to pull Reggie away from his criminal life and his brother’s toxic influence. However, as Scotland Yard’s Detective Superintendent “Nipper” Read closes in and Ronnie’s behavior grows increasingly volatile, the Krays’ empire begins to implode from the inside out.
